MAPEI Announces New Facility in Houston
Coatings and building products manufacturer MAPEI Corporation recently announced in an emailed press release that it acquired a new 200,000-square-foot facility in Houston. The facility is designed for the manufacturing of powders and liquid admixtures.
The company reports that it is in “phase one” of the development as manufacturing equipment is still being installed. According to Carlo Mandelli, Director of Operations for MAPEI Corporation, the new facility will create jobs for those located in the suburbs of Houston and has the potential to be expanded in the future.
“By the year 2023, the plant will be up and running, not only producing MAPEI products but also creating approximately 80 new jobs between direct and indirect labor,” said Luigi Di Geso, President and CEO of MAPEI Corporation.
“This Houston facility joins our Garland facility, expanding our Texas footprint and allowing us to serve our customers across the South, West and Central United States even more efficiently.”
The facility in Houston also joins construction that is nearing the final stages at MAPEI facilities in Dalton, Georgia, and in Fredericksburg, Virginia – both of which will also be full-production facilities; announcements regarding their openings will be forthcoming.
MAPEI Celebrates 85 Years
Earlier this year, MAPEI Corporation celebrated its 85th anniversary in February, having originally opened on Feb. 12, 1937, in Milan.
On achieving the milestone, Di Geso stated, “MAPEI is known throughout the industry for excellence – not only for excellent products, but also for the excellence of the philosophies and practices that lead to the creation of those products. That excellence is rooted in our firm connection to Italy and to the passion for innovation with which this company was founded. MAPEI is a historic company with new ideas because of that passionate drive for innovation.”
At the time of its origin, the building materials business started with founder Rodolfo Squinzi, his wife Elsa and seven staff members. Since then, the company has evolved through three generations. Today, MAPEI—Materiali Ausiliari Per l'Edilizia e l'Industria—is a multinational company with operations in 57 countries, over 20 product lines and 84 production plants.
According to the company, internationalization, research and development, specialization and sustainability have been its pillars in success.
