University Receives 900 Gallons of Paint

FRIDAY, JUNE 17, 2022

Grambling State University (Grambling, Louisiana) announced at the beginning of the month that it had received 900 gallons of high-quality paint—valued at $81,000—donated by coatings manufacturer Benjamin Moore.

The paint donation was garnered by the advocacy of 2002 alumnus Eric Bowie who serves as Senior Manufacturing Manager at Benjamin Moore.

“We appreciate gifts that are in time, talent and treasure,” said GSU President Rick Gallot. “Today’s gift to the university pretty much covers all three. We’re in the middle of terms in our student housing. Painting is a natural part of what we do [at this time of the year]. The savings the university will realize with the donation is something that will go a long way.”

According to reports, when Bowie was first appointed to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion board for Benjamin Moore, he wanted to use his platform to educate fellow colleagues about Historically Black Colleges and Universities and how the company could help.

After a discussion with Gallot regarding opportunities where Benjamin Moore could partner with the institution, Bowie thought of donating paint for the university’s periodic renovations. However, when it came to asking Benjamin Moore about the donation, Bowie was surprised when the company exceeded his original expectations.

“I was thinking 50 gallons, 100 gallons,” Bowie said. “When I talked to the powers that be, they were like, ‘oh no, we can do more.’”

With the newly acquired 900 gallons of paint, Interim Director of Facilities Maintenance Damien Chatman said the coatings could be utilized in many areas on campus including classrooms, campus living, housing and select equipment.

Benjamin Moore News

Recently, Benjamin Moore announced that it has enhanced its ultra-premium Aura interior paint with a new acrylic resin and formula.

According to the coatings manufacturer, the Aura interior coatings brand is the only paint on the market that combines a new, proprietary acrylic resin with Color Lock Technology and Gennex Color Technology to produce a greater color depth and richness.

The new formula is noted to provide smoother application across all sheens and superior hide across the full-color spectrum. Additional enhancements made to the dry film properties result in a low VOC coating that resists scuffs, stains and color rub-off.

Available in matte, eggshell, satin and semi-gloss finishes, Aura Interior can be tinted in more than 3,500 Benjamin Moore colors. Recommended areas for use include living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, foyers and hallways. Aura Interior is available exclusively at Benjamin Moore retailers throughout the United States, Canada and international distributors.

In April, it was reported in a 2022 U.S. Paint Satisfaction Study by marketing research company J.D. Power that Benjamin Moore ranked the highest in the interior paint segment with a score of 878. In tallying the scores for independent retailers, Benjamin Moore also took the top spot with a score of 881, while in the exterior stain segment, the company took third with a score of 843.
