New Product Announcement: Gloss Measurement Meter

Distributor, producer and designer of physical and inspection instruments The Paul N. Gardner Company, Inc. (Gardco) recently announced the launch of its new portable gloss measurement instrument. The Positector GLS Gloss Meter offers physical testing for all surface finishes.

According to the emailed press release, the Positector GLS is available in three models:

  • 60° Model: for measuring most gloss applications and is the preferred angle for semi-gloss;
  • 20°/60° Model: for measuring high gloss to semi-gloss and calculating Haze Index; and
  • 20°/60°/85° Model: for measuring high-, semi- and matte gloss levels and for calculating Haze.

The company reports that all three versions are compatible with the PosiTector standard and advanced glossmeters and accept all PosiTector probes easily converting to a coating thickness gage, dew point meter, soluble surface profile gage, soluble salt tester, hardness tester or ultrasonic wall thickness gage.

The gloss meter reportedly features an Automatic Diagnosis and Auto Calibration feature, with measurement speeds of more than 60 readers per minute, ergonomic grip, impact resistance holster and auto rotating display with flip lock. It also includes a 2.8-inch color, impact resistance touchscreen with selectable display languages, on-gage help, statistics mode, screen capture, Hilo alarm and reset.

Available with a USB port for connection a PC and supply continuous power, the gage body is weatherproof, dustproof and water resistant. A standard model also reportedly stores 1,000 readings per probe, with stored measurements showing date an time stamped.

Gardco reports that the gloss meter conforms to ASTM C584/D523/D4039, ISO 2813/7668, JIS Z 8741 and AS/NZS 1580.602.2 standards. The device also features a two-year warranty on the gage body and probe.

The Advanced Model also includes storage of 250,000 readings in up to 1,000 batches and sub-batches, as well as a normal scan mode for continuous readings and a statistics scan mode to take continuous readings and record average, standard deviation, min/max and number of readings while scanning. The device provides live graphing of measurement data, a touchscreen keyboard, Bluetooth and integration with third-party software.
