Obituary: Fritz Stotmeister, Sto Founder
Fritz Stotmeister, Founder of international technology leader in the design and production of innovative building materials Sto, passed away on April 21, at the age of 94. The entrepreneur and Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board is mourned by his family and the employees of the Sto Group.
During his time with the company, Stotmeister shaped Sto and the construction industry as well. The company reports that his personality continues to shape the company's values to this today: a personal interaction based on mutual help, respect and discipline.
“He loved the company and its employees very much,” Sto wrote in an emailed press release.
Sto is a global business founded and led by members of the German Stotmeister family. Starting in 1936 with a cement and lime plant in Weizen, Fritz and his father, Wilhelm Stotmeister, pioneered the introduction of high-quality synthetic resin wall coatings in the European market.
Since then, Sto has grown globally, with a significant share of that growth coming from the invention of insulated wall cladding systems in the 1960s. The company has grown through innovation and acquisition to be a major worldwide player in making buildings of all types energy efficient and enhancing their beauty and functionality.
Today, the group has 50 subsidiaries in 38 countries and employs over 5,700 people, which is noted to be a testament of vision, hard work and innovation by the Stotmeister family.
Stotmeister leaves behind two daughters and two sons, along with their families, and the employees of Sto, who make up the “Sto family.”
“A life that saw radiant happiness and bitter pain has come to an end. In deep mourning, we bid farewell to our father and the defining personality of our company. After a fulfilling life, he passed away peacefully in his home,” wrote his eldest son Jochen Stotmeister, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Sto Management SE.
