New Product Announcement: Wind Farm Protective Coating

MONDAY, MARCH 28, 2022

Belgian anti-corrosion coating company Acotec recently announced the launch of its one-layer protection coating for the wind farm industry. Humidur WF22 is based on the company’s all-weather offshore coating technology, reportedly delivering protection against aggressive humidity and seawater exposure.

According to the emailed release, Humidur can shield steel from UV radiation and light reflections from the weather and sea, as well as protect the transition piece that is subject to splashes on the high tidal zone and waves.

“Acotec already has extensive experience protecting offshore oil and gas platforms. Wind turbines are exposed to similar conditions over a long period of time, and yet do not always benefit from human ‘on the spot’ control, so a durable protection solution is necessary,” said Gary Hill, Acotec Global Business Development Director.

“Humidur WF22 is that solution. Humidur WF22 is a sustainable and environmentally friendly anti-corrosion coating. Our products aim to deliver sustainable asset protection.”

The new product reportedly offers over 35 years of protection in highly corrosive environments. The one-coat system and durability is cost-effective in that it reduces application time, labor costs and level of waste. Additionally, Humidur minimizes the Levelized Production Cost and increases wind farm project lifetimes.

The coating has reportedly been proven to cure under water, including at freezing temperatures, allowing the structure to be submerged right after application. Acotec reports the coating is also 100% solids, containing no solvents, heavy metals, coal tar, isocyanates, VOCs or TBTs.

Humidur WF22 is available in various sizes as a full protection coating, top coat and quick repair coat.
