Kittitas County is seeking contractors to perform bridge truss rehabilitation on the Yakima River Bridge located in Thorp, Washington.

Bids are due April 7.

The contract is estimated between $1,500,000 and $2,000,000.

Scope of Work

Kittitas County is seeking contractors for rehabilitation of the Yakima River Bridge. Work includes cleaning and coating of bridge members, concrete spalling repair, steel portal repair, rehabilitation of barrier group pads and beam guardrail repair.

Work includes a lump sum item for cleaning and painting bridge members. The contractor will remove any visible oil, grease and road tar from steel surfaces through Solvent Cleaning (SSPC-SP 1). All surfaces to be coated will be prepared to Brush Off Blast-Cleaning standards (SSPC-SP 7).

Surfaces inaccessible to brush-off blasting will be prepared in accordance to Power Tool Cleaning standards (SSPC-SP 3). Following brush-off blasting, spot abrasive blast-cleaning in accordance to Commercial standards (SSPC-SP 6/NACE No. 3) will be used for steel substrates exhibiting visible corrosion. Commercial Grade Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 15) may be substituted for small areas or corrosion.

If full removal of paint is required, surfaces will require abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White standards (SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2). Areas inaccessible for surface preparation will be prepared in accordance with Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal (SSPC-SP 11/NACE No. 3).

Existing steel surfaces will be coated with either a component-based system or a performance-based system. The component-based system is comprised of a zinc-rich moisture-cured polyurethane primer, moisture-cured polyurethane primer and intermediate coating, and a moisture-cured urethane top coat. The owner-approved component-based coating manufacturers are Wasser Coatings and Sherwin-Williams.

The performance-based system includes application of a zinc-rich epoxy primer, epoxy intermediate and polyurethane topcoat. The owner-approved performance-based coating manufacturers are Sherwin-Williams, Wasser Coatings and Carboline, according to NEPCOAT Qualified Products List B.

Containment, testing and disposal of containment waste is required.
