New Product Announcement: Epoxy Adhesive
International manufacturer of industrial protective coatings and composites Belzona (Harrogate, North Yorkshire) recently added a high-performance epoxy structural adhesive to its polymeric portfolio.
The addition is a “first ever” for the company.
According to Belzona, the Belzona 7311 is a cold bonding adhesive optimized for structural bonding applications subject to cyclic and repeated load where high mechanical strength, cleavage, shear and fatigue resistance are required.

To apply the material, Belzona reports that substrates must be prepared by grit blasting to ensure a surface profile of 75 µm (3 mil) and cleaned to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2½ standard. Next, the required amounts of base and solidifier are mixed together at a ratio of 3:1 until a uniform material is produced, free of any streakiness.
After these steps have been completed, the system is then ready to be applied onto the application area using a short-bristled brush and Belzona applicator. For full adhesive strength, the company recommends a curing time of as quick as 48 hours when the temperature is 20 C (68 F). However, this can be accelerated depending on the temperature of the environment.

The result: a high-performance product that is perfectly formulated to meet the exact structural bonding requirements found across a wide variety of application and industry areas.”
Maintenance personnel and reliability engineers can specify a Belzona 7311 structural adhesive which can be FEA-modelled and engineered to deliver a state-of-the-art solution to assets subject to cleavage, shear and repeated loads.
The coating can be used in a variety of application areas including: equipment support brackets, handrails on steel substrates, plate bonding, vessel furniture; internal and external, staircases and ladders.
