New Product Announcement: Plant-Based Resins

Earlier this year, global manufacturer of material solutions Covestro (Pittsburgh) announced plans to grow its Decovery family of resins and added-value services to meet the demands of its customers and markets.

Through the company’s “Decorative House of resins” strategy, Covestro plans to address new demands by the decorative industry for more sustainable products that both protect health and safety and drive functionality and efficiency.

Covestro plans to achieve these new initiatives through three key pillars: proprietary market insights, its advanced resin technology toolbox and its frontrunning position in partially bio-based innovation. The company’s latest initiative—known as “A natural home to create more sustainable paints”—focuses specifically on its last pillar and plant-based Decovery resins.

Covestro reports that Decovery resins have a bio-based content of up to 52% and are verified to C14 standards. To push the adoption of bio-based solutions, Covestro plans to expand the family of resins, which is slated to open new sustainable horizons for the decorative coatings market.

“I’m thrilled to be introducing ‘A natural home to create more sustainable paints’ and launching our latest Decovery innovations,” said Gerjan van Laar, Marketing Manager Architectural at Covestro. “By expanding our range of more sustainable, safer, high-performance partially bio-based solutions that meet the needs of the decorative coatings market, we’re helping our customers differentiate themselves while making a positive impact on our industry.

“More than ever, for paint manufacturers, the switch to bio-based decorative coatings is within reach!”
