AkzoNobel Releases 2022 Color of the Year
Global coatings company AkzoNobel released its 2022 Color of the Year last week, revealing an airy, light blue that the company says, “feels like the breath of fresh air we all need.”
Named Bright Skies, the soft blue hue is designed to brighten your day.
The company reports that the color was chosen after its team of in-house paints and coatings color experts and international design professionals extensive global trend research found that people are looking for colors that give them the feeling of “open air, connections to the great outdoors and a fresh approach to everything.”
And after a spell of feeling shut in, the company says, who doesn’t desire that feeling? Many events over the past two years have thrown the social, economic and environmental aspects of our lives into sharper focus. In selecting its Color of the Year, AkzoNobel reportedly reassessed what really matters: family, friends, home and the world around us.
“In 2022, Bright Skies will help us embrace new ideas and shape a new future,” said Heleen van Gent, Creative Director of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center. “The color reflects the limitless skies above us, giving us the space to redefine the role of our homes, nature, the arts and new voices in our lives. As consumers look to express themselves and transform their spaces, our aim as color experts is to inspire their color confidence.”
To show how Bright Skies pairs with a host of other shades, AkzoNobel also designed four decorative paint color palettes inspired by the changing role of the home: Workshop colors, Greenhouse colors, Studio colors and Salon colors.
The palettes are reportedly meant to simplify choosing and combing its array of soft neutrals and joyful hues. The company adds that the collection can be used to define zones in multipurpose spaces, bring a sense of nature indoors, create a soothing atmosphere or encourage a sense of unity.
“Our Paints and Coatings businesses use research insights to bring surfaces to life with on-trend colors,” says Michael Friede, Chief Commercial Officer for Performance Coatings. “Every year, we pioneer a new world of possibilities for customers and consumers, offering market-specific colors and finishes across decorative paints, architecture, aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics and wood coatings.”
AkzoNobel adds that its latest color trends have been translated into the Automotive and Specialty Coatings, Coil and Extrusion Coatings, Powder Coatings and Wood Coatings businesses, based on extensive color and material research and market analysis.
