Nominations Now Open for 2021 Elevation Awards

Nominations are now open for Technology Publishing Co.’s commercial honors program: The Elevation Awards. This year, the awards are in partnership with the Commercial Painting Industry Association.

The program recognizes projects ranging from residential exteriors and commercial renovations to floor coatings and air barriers throughout the commercial coatings industry.

“2020 was a weird year for everyone, as we all know,” said Brandy Hadden, Editor-in-Chief of Commercial Painting. “But it was the best year yet for the Elevation Awards. People had time to reflect on all they had accomplished in the past year, and we received the most competitive nominations that the judges had ever seen.”

Now, in 2021, with TPC’s new partnership with the CPIA, it only made sense to integrate the awards as well.

“The CPIA is very excited to partner with TPC and our sponsors to recognize the best of the best in our industry,” said Aaron Moore, Co-Founder of the CPIA. “It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to showcase the hard work of painters and painting contractors around the country!”

“A core objective of the CPIA is helping commercial painting contractors be successful,” added TPC CEO Brion Palmer. “It only seems natural for TPC and CPIA to expand our partnership by working together on a program like the Elevation Awards that will recognize the very best work in the commercial painting industry.”

Nominations are now open for this year’s awards for outstanding projects completed between March 2, 2020, and March 1, 2021. The deadline is Oct. 1.

This year’s project categories are as follows:

Exteriors, Commercial + Public Buildings

This award is given for the effective use of coatings and other decorative treatments to achieve aesthetic effects that enhance the exterior of a commercial building—such as those used for retail, hospitality, lodging or entertainment—or a public building, such as a legislative chamber, a school or a railway station.

Interiors, Commercial + Public Buildings

This award is given for the effective use of coatings and other substrate treatments to enhance the interior of a commercial or public building. Examples include buildings used for retail, hospitality, restaurant, entertainment, transportation and education.

This award is given for use of coatings to enhance the appeal of a building renovation or retrofit, in terms of both aesthetics and functional value, such as energy performance. (The project may be a residential, commercial or public structure.)

Floor Coatings + Treatments

This award is given for outstanding achievement in selection and installation of a floor coating or treatment that excels in aesthetic effects, durability and maintainability. (Applications must make a persuasive case for how a project achieves durability/maintainability.)

Air Barriers + Moisture Management

This award is given for a liquid-applied air barrier system, including related taping and flashing materials, that excelled in design and installation detailing. (Applications must include photos of the project in progress, and reference to specifications/design documents.)

Roof Coatings + Systems

The Roof Coatings award will be given to a successful roof coating project that has achieved demonstrable energy savings and life extension of the roofing substrate on a building. (Projects must be judged on technical merits, with energy use measured during the past three to five years. Applications can reference energy cost records and include an endorsement/statement from the building owner.)

Judges' Choice Award

Drawing from individual category winners, judges will select an overall winner to receive the Judges' Choice Award, which recognizes an outstanding architecture project that best exemplifies the seamless combination of compelling aesthetics and high performance in use of coatings and other substrate treatments.
