Webinar Archive: Corrosion Prevention Methods, Costs

TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 2021

Although Technology Publishing Co. has wrapped up PaintSquare Connect, its signature virtual event for the protective and commercial coatings industries, an archived library of its featured webinars remains available to registrants until May 31.

Over the course of the next few months, PaintSquare Daily News will be highlighted some of those webinars, reminding readers to experience these educational presentations before they’re gone.

The event was co-sponsored by Carboline, Finishing First (Powered by LMCI), McBrayer & Associates and Sherwin-Williams.

Less Salt

Robert Richter and Norman Petticrew, both from CRW USA, LLC (agents for Corr-Ze Products), presented “A Little Less Salt, Please!” on both Nov. 10 and Nov. 12, 2020, in the conference’s Surface Preparation track.

Reported to have over 100 years in combined, real-world experience in the surface preparation and coatings application industry, Richter and Petticrew discuss the following in the presentation:

  • Annual corrosion costs;
  • Types and causes of corrosion;
  • Corrosion prevention techniques and methods;
  • Planning ahead for corrosion prevention;
  • Comprehensive studies of soluble salts failures;
  • Detailed understanding of corrosion issues on a global basis;
  • Understanding why abrasive blasting and vapor/water blasting alone cannot remove soluble salts;
  • “Hurry up and paint before it turns on us” is no longer acceptable;
  • Why corrosion always return at weld seams and previously pitted locations;
  • The dangers of coating over salt contamination; and
  • Issues with human sweat during coating applications;

The duo also discusses solutions for all of the aforementioned issues and adds that the presentation "will dramatically change the way you think about corrosion prevention planning.”
