Sherwin-Williams Releases Industrial Wood Colormix

As part of its Industrial Wood Coatings division, global coatings firm The Sherwin-Williams Company recently announced its 2021 Industrial Wood Colormix Forecast, Rhythm of Color, through its Global Color & Design Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

According to Sherwin, “This forecast is built to inspire product developers and manufacturers of wood products to create finishes in line with consumer preference shifts based on global, cultural and economic influences.”

Comprised of four finish collections—Sanctuary, Encounter, Continuum and Tapestry—each color is reported to have been examined through lenses of the past, present and future, and are inspired by nature and balance. Ultimately, the collection sets out to reflect on how the rhythm of nature can manifest into feelings of calmness, wellness, authenticity and happiness when entangled with influences like sustainability, storytelling, community and futuristic fiction.

The collections include:

  • Sanctuary – this collection aims to bring nature inside through calming colors that nurture wellness and serenity. It blends tones such as Mindful Nesting, Life Balance, Sustainability and Biophilia.
  • Encounter – this collection offers rich earthy finishes that embrace heritage lux and global inspiration in varying levels of gloss and sheen, balanced by dark and textured finishes. The collection includes Storytelling, Patchwork, Watercolors and Global Patterns.
  • Continuum – this palette embodies an entangled hybrid of synthetic and natural influences by infusing whites, charcoals and pops of color including Community, Science Fiction, Historical Luxury and Anthropocene.
  • Tapestry – this palette is filled with vivid hues that aim to spark creativity in life through vibrant colors such as Diversion, Future Fiction, Maximum Glam and Wellness.

“After thoroughly researching macro-level trends around the world, the themes in this year’s Colormix Trend Forecast embody modern societal dichotomies, like change and comfort, which derive from the pandemic and social discontent,” said Lauren West, Global Color and Design director, Sherwin-Williams Industrial Wood Coatings Division.

“Consumer color preferences will shift because of these realities, which is why it’s important for wood product developers to follow forward-looking color forecasting. At the Global Color & Design Center, we help our customers bring the forecast to life through the creation of custom, proprietary finishes that meet consumer demand.”

Earlier this year, Sherwin released the commercial collection of Rhythm of Color. The collection is made up of 40 hues in four palettes: Sanctuary, Encounter, Continuum and Tapestry.
