JPCL October Issue is Now Online
The October issue of the Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings is now online, available through options including an interactive digital edition, a full complement of web content and downloadable PDF.
Inside the Issue
Opening with its traditional SSPC On the Front Line section, Michael Damiano, Senior Technical Advisor, SSPC, discusses the basics of thermal spray inspections, from the process in general to surface preparation, surface profile, application and testing. SSPC also discusses the recent expansion of its international reach, having partnered with a variety of subject matter expects and translators to further widen its technical materials.
The first feature comes as the final installment of the 2020 SSPC Structure Award-winning coating projects. The series comes to an end with two New York City-area bridge projects: the Governor Mario Cuomo Bridge, which won the Eric S. Kline Award for an outstanding project involving coating in the shop, and the Bayonne Bridge, winner of the George Campbell Award for a difficult or complex project.
Next, Simon Daly, CUI & High Heat Coatings Business Development Manager, Hempel A/S, discusses corrosion under insulation and choosing the optimal coating for protection against CUI. In “How to Prequalify a CUI Coating Choice” Daly covers different coating tests with the aim of defining which methods can be used to simulate CUI conditions in the laboratory, and how to evaluate a coating material’s performance under related conditions.
Finally, Brady DeRoche, Business Manager, Innovative Surface Prep, outlines the UHP waterjetting process and uses past case histories to demonstrate how robotic UHP equipment can effectively perform surface prep to specification before coating application in “UHP Waterjetting: The Oldest New Method for Surface Preparation.”
