Bids Needed for Multiple CA Bridges


The City of Santa Clarita is seeking contractors to perform maintenance and coating of three bridge structures in Santa Clarita, California.

Bids are due 11 a.m. PT on April 22.

Scope of Work

The project will involve performing maintenance and painting of the McBean Parkway (Bridgeport) Pedestrian Bridge, the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge and the Valencia High School Pedestrian Bridge. The scope of work to be performed includes concrete repairs and replacement, deck joint replacement, loose deck surface bead-blasting and sealant application and steel structure components surface preparation and painting.

The contractor will oversee removal of corrosion, rust, dirt and other surface contaminants on bridge structures, block walls and other miscellaneous metal bridge items including repainting of bridge surfaces. Work will include a total of 3,170 square feet of surface preparation and painting the bottom side of structural steel decking. A total of 2,530 square feet of surface preparation and painting the inside face and truss of bridge superstructures will be performed.

Work will also include 1,900 square feet of preparation and coating steel roof truss members, and a total of 62 square feet of surface preparation and painting of rusted steel truss members. The project will also entail 12 square feet of surface preparation and coating of bearing assemblies. Bridge structural steel surfaces will receive a two-part epoxy based high performance coating system.

Abrasive blast-cleaning of the concrete decks and bike-way will be required. The steel shot must comply with SSPC-AB3. Recycled steel shot must comply with SSPC-AB 2. Following 1,120 square feet of surface preparation with a commercial quality dry blast-cleaning, bridge decks will require application of high molecular weight methacrylate system.

The chosen contractor will oversee preparation and painting of 600 square feet on an existing block wall with one coat premium exterior primer and two coats of a premium exterior finish coating. The owner-approved manufacturer is Dunn Edwards or an approved equivalent.

The project includes repair of spalled and cracked concrete at bearing seats. Damaged concrete surfaces will receive an epoxy binding primer. The owner-approved manufacturer is Sika, or an approved equivalent. A polyester-based polymer patching system will be used in damaged areas at bearing seats. The owner-approved manufacturer is Kwik Bond Polymers.
