Axalta to Coat FL Speedway Center Injector

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2020

Global liquid and powder coatings manufacturer Axalta recently announced that it will be giving its branded Center Injector at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, a new look prior to the Daytona 500 NASCAR race on Feb. 16.

"We are thrilled to update the Center Injector with Axalta's Imron industrial coatings," said Dave Heflin, Vice President, Global Industrial Liquid Coatings.

"Using our high-performing and highly durable Imron industrial coatings in bright Axalta Red will ensure the entryway captures every car enthusiast's attention, getting them ready for fast action on the track for many years to come."

The Imron industrial brand is a high-gloss polyurethane that will be applied to the Axalta Injector’s facade. Axalta has had naming rights at the Daytona Speedway since 2017, a partnership that also includes parts of the "World Center of Racing" neighborhood, which overlooks the speedway’s start/finish line.

"We look forward to revealing the new Imron-painted Center Injector for Daytona Speedweeks," Daytona International Speedway President Chip Wile said. "Axalta has been an incredible partner to Daytona International Speedway and this is a wonderful way to enhance our ongoing partnership."

During the Daytona 500 race, the Axalta Center Injector will be hosting the following activities:

  • World Center of Racing – An open-air where visitors can experience an eye-level view of the flag stand and unprecedented views of the start/finish line. The full entertainment space is roughly the size of two football fields and includes various history and highlights of motorsports racing.
  • "We Coat It" Displays – Here, Axalta will be showcasing its high-performance machinery used to apply its coatings to everything from motorcycles to trucks, cars, wheels and more.

If that wasn’t enough excitement for the big race day, the company has also announced its 2020 Global Automotive Color of the Year, “Sea Glass,” would be featured on NASCAR’s No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, driven by 2018 NASCAR Cup Series rookie of the year, William Byron. Reported to have cooling effects, the high-tech premium blue-green chroma paint scheme is expected to stand out from other racecars.

"The intensity of the Sea Glass color, which is inspired by waterways and oceans, will light up the track with its rich color and smooth finish,” added Wade Robinson, Managing Director, Axalta Global Motorsports. “William is the perfect driver to bring this paint scheme to life and capture the checkered flag at the famed Daytona International Speedway."
