Coatings manufacturer Hempel (Lyngby, Denmark) announced early last week that Lars Petersson, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, will be serving as the company’s new CEO, succeeding Henrik Andersen. His appointment begins July 1.

Petersson joined Hempel as Group COO in March 2015. Richard Sand, Chairman of the Board of Directors, noted that the “natural choice of a Group President and CEO is an existing top leader from Hempel, shows that we have succeeded in establishing the right leadership team for the future.”

Petersson received his Master of Science in industrial engineering and management from the Chalmers University of Technology. Petersson has also served as senior vice president for Inwido, Europe’s largest window manufacturer, and as vice president for global flooring company Tarkett.

“I have experienced how unique this company is," said Petersson. "With more than 6,600 dedicated colleagues in 80 countries, a strong value-based culture, a very special customer focus and social engagement, as well as a commitment to always challenging ourselves, I am both enthusiastic and proud to be part of the Hempel family.

“Hempel is a company where we all work together to execute our strategy and to reach the goals we set for ourselves.”

Andersen will be moving on to a position serving as President and CEO for wind turbine manufacturer Vestas (Aarhus, Denmark). His appointment begins Aug. 1. In the interim, Andersen will continue to work with Hempel to assure a smooth transition.
