SSPC Trainthepainter Comes to Columbus

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2018

The University of Akron will be facilitating SSPC’s Trainthepainter training program in October in Columbus, Ohio, providing five days of coating applicator training for workers seeking to further their knowledge and advance toward SSPC certifications.

The Trainthepainter TTP 1 Trainee course, administered by SSPC and originally developed by the U.K.-based MPI Group, will be presented by the university Oct. 22-26, hosted by BlastOne at its Columbus facility. Focusing on protective coatings application, the course has no prerequisites; it also includes information on surface preparation with hand and power tools.

The TTP1 training is the first step toward further training and certifications with SSPC through the Trainthepainter program. Once this course is completed, trainees can choose to pursue the TTP2 Applicator course, which also requires 1,600 hours of onsite experience, in order to achieve SSPC C6 Applicator certification. Further certifications workers can attain from there include C7 Abrasive Blaster, C12 Spray Painter and Coating Application Specialist Level 1.

Discounted rates are available through Oct. 1; SSPC members pay $799 for the course, and nonmembers pay $899. After Oct. 1, tuition rates go up by $100.
