Behr Releases 2019 Color of the Year Pick, Palettes

Behr Paint Company (New York, New York) is hoping to guide owners in updating their interiors with its 2019 Color of the year: Blueprint.

Billed as warmer than denim and softer than navy, the middle-of-the-road blue aims to emit authenticity, confidence and timelessness, according to the company.

“Much like the sketches builders rely on to bring an architectural design to life, Blueprint S470-5 lays a foundation for consumers to make their unique vision a reality,” said Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr.

“This universally appealing hue provides a steady stream of positivity and is poised to be an instant classic for years to come.”

In addition to the Blueprint pick, Behr has also released a 2019 Color Trends palette with 15 colors forecast to influence the year ahead.

“On its own, Blueprint S470-5 makes an authentic, unassuming statement,” the company says. “But when paired with other colors, it can add depth and variety, or behave like a neutral to anchor bolder palettes.”

The four palettes for 2019 include:

  • Color Binge – a binge of blue that the company notes is intended to be layered, this palette covers the spectrum from light Watery, a blue-green Antigua and Dark Navy;
  • Inspired Curation – a collection of jewel tones, Blueprint is complemented by Raisin in the Sun, Vine Leaf and Amber Autumn;
  • Down to Earth – Centering around a gray tone in Elephant Skin, Blueprint is leveled out in this collection with Mars Red; and
  • Soft Focus – A gathering of pastels, Blueprint is the anchor color for Cotton Gray, Standing Ovation and Sand Dance.

Behr debuted the 2019 picks at two pop-up events in New York City last week.
