New Paint Stripper Alternative Unveiled

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2018

Chemicals company Nexeo Solutions Inc. (The Woodlands, Texas) announced on Tuesday (July 31) that it has released new paint-stripping products that are methylene chloride-free.

The company says that it has reformulated its Startex Liquid Paint Stripper and Semi-Paste Paint Stripper products with ingredients without methylene chloride.

“As a market leader, it is our responsibility to provide innovative products to customers,” said Jason Sanchez, Business Director Co-Pack.

“We have been working on these alternative formulations for the past two years, and I am proud to say that we have delivered a high-performing, methylene chloride-free option to current products on the market. At Nexeo Solutions, we are excited that our Startex product line can help set the standard for methylene chloride-free paint stripper products.”

In May, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that it has decided to move forward with its original ruling on methylene chloride, prohibiting the use of the chemical in consumer and commercial paint-stripping.

Since then, multiple companies and stores have announced that they will discontinue the manufacture/distribution of paint strippers containing the chemical.

Nexo notes that, in addition to the Startex Liquid Paint Stripper (which removes paint, varnish, lacquer and shellac from wood, metal, concrete, and masonry surfaces) and the Semi-Paste Paint Stripper (which does the same for vertical surfaces), the Startex line also includes a Green Paint Stripper, which has a low-VOC formula.
