New Paint Aims to Trap Odors

In response to the hazards of third-hand smoke, Ecobond Paint LLC (Arvada, Colorado) has released a new line of odor-blocking paint that it says can protect against odors from smoke, fumes and other odors.

OdorDefender is an acrylic latex paint with food-grade additives, seaweed alginates and specialty resins that function to seal, block and absorb odors.

"We are passionate about restoring our environment and protecting people from the hazards of smoke and odor with our patent-pending Ecobond OdorDefender paint technology,” James Barthel, president and founder of Ecobond. “We are pleased to announce our latest breakthrough in smoke odor removal.”

In the press release, the company noted the National Institute of Health’s report on third-hand smoke, which describes the toxins from smoke that not only stick to building surfaces and furnishings, but also re-emit back into the air as gas and react with other compounds to create secondary pollutants.

OdorDefender is also mold- and mildew-resistant, fire-resistant and low-VOC.
