American Coatings Show Kicks Off

MONDAY, APRIL 9, 2018


The American Coatings Show and Conference 2018—the biannual conference and exhibition hosted by the American Coatings Society—kicks off today (April 9) in Indianapolis, promising technical sessions on coating chemistry and exhibitors from throughout the coatings industry.

The conference portion of the event begins this afternoon with four sessions:

  • Session 1: Science Today—Coatings Tomorrow, looking at current research that may impact the industry in the coming years;
  • Session 2: Wood Coatings;
  • Session 3: Functional and Smart Coatings, including a session on microencapsulated healing agents in organic zinc-rich primers; and
  • Session 4: Grinding and Dispersing.

Tuesday’s technical offerings include morning and afternoon sessions on architectural coatings, and sessions on epoxies, polyurethanes and radiation curing, as well as two sessions on measuring, testing and automation, including a session on nondestructive testing using drones.

Wednesday morning brings the Protective Coatings session (Session 13), featuring the following presentations:

The show part of the event kicks off Tuesday and will feature live product demonstrations and more than 500 exhibitors from throughout the coatings industry. Other highlights include the keynote address, presented by Barry Snyder, chief technology officer at Axalta Coating Systems; the 2018 Mattiello Lecture, by Ray Fernando, a professor at California Polytechnic State University; and a 5K fun run Wednesday morning.
