Sika Acquires Decorative Concrete Company

Swiss specialty chemicals company Sika announced Wednesday (Nov. 1) that it has acquired decorative concrete floor products and systems company Butterfield Color Inc. (Aurora, Illinois).

Sika says that the acquisition will accelerate the company’s growth in the North American construction market.

“The acquisition of Butterfield fits perfectly with our growth strategy in North America, enabling Sika to reach new contractor customers and better penetrate key projects,” said Christoph Ganz, Regional Manager North America.

“We see great synergies coming from the combined technologies of Sika, Scofield and now Butterfield. We are proud to welcome Butterfield’s employees into the Sika team and we are excited about growing our business together.”

Butterfield’s line of colors, decorative stains and sealers, and stamping and texturing tools add to the list of acquirements by Sika over the past year.

Recent Agreements

Last month, Sika acquired Turkish-based ABC Sealants, an adhesives and sealants manufacturer, which the company said would boost its growth in the Middle East and Africa and allow for more cross-selling opportunities.

Late last year, Sika announced its acquisition of Rmax Operating LLC, also a U.S. company, that manufactures polysio insulation products for the building envelope in commercial and residential wall and roof applications.

Also in 2016, Sika acquired concrete fiber producer FRC Industries (Tuscaloosa, Alabama) and concrete color additive and decorative concrete products producer L.M. Scofield Company (Los Angeles).
