FL Water Tank Named 2017's Best
An elevated water tank in Destin, Florida, has earned the distinction of Tank of the Year, as recognized by protective coating manufacturer Tnemec Company (Kansas City, Missouri).
The Destin tank, which depicts a beach scene in keeping with the resort town’s coastal vibe, was painted with a Tnemec fluoropolymer product; only Tnemec-coated tanks were eligible for the honor. Blocks from the coast, the illustration features two beach chairs facing the ocean.
“The city of the Destin water tank reflects the tranquility and beauty of the coastal resort town in the Florida Panhandle,” explained Doug Hansen, Director of the Water Tank Market for Tnemec. “The tank’s exterior was repainted this year using an advanced fluoropolymer coating system from Tnemec that provides unsurpassed color and gloss retention.”
The Destin tank was painted by muralist Eric Henn.
The winner was chosen by a panel of water tank enthusiasts, based on a number of criteria, including artistic merit, significance to the community and challenges encountered on the project. The Destin tank was chosen from 12 finalists announced in early October.
The other honor doled out by Tnemec as part of Tank of the Year is the People’s Choice award. The Gaffney, South Carolina, “Peachoid” water tank, repainted in early 2017 to match its original hues, received more than 2,400 votes and was crowned People’s Choice. Online voting took place through October.
Gaffney, South Carolina's Peachoid won People's Choice in the 2017 Tank of the Year contest.
The Peachoid was painted by Southern Corrosion along with original artist Peter Freudenberg.
Tnemec, which supplies coatings for steel, concrete and other substrates, has held the Tank of the Year competition annually for 12 years.
The 12 finalists, including the winners, will be featured in the company’s 2018 calendar.
