Contractors Sought for $1.5M Tank Recoat
The City of Bellmead is seeking contractors for the rehabilitation of five ground storage tanks and one elevated storage tank located in Waco, Texas. Engineers estimate that the project will cost $1,450,000.
A pre-bid meeting will be held Sept. 27. Bids are due Oct. 17.
Scope of Work
The project involves cleaning and recoating three 500,000-gallon ground storage tanks, two 750,000-gallon ground storage tanks and one 100,000-gallon elevated storage tank located at four water plants.
All interior surfaces (excluding Parish GST #2) will be abrasive blast-cleaned to Commercial standards (SSPC-SP 6). When soluble salt limits are below contractor limits, dehumidification equipment will be required and surfaces should be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 10). If necessary, any deep pits left in the tank(s) will be repaired by welding and the shallow pits will be repaired with a 100 percent solids epoxy paste, after zinc-rich primer is applied.
Once the interior surfaces are properly cleaned and prepped, a zinc-rich primer will be applied, followed by a thin stripe coat, and a polyamide epoxy finish.
For the preparation of the tanks’ exterior, surfaces will first be pressure washed with a 10 percent TSP solution followed by a water-only pressure wash. Any remaining rusted areas will be power-tool cleaned to SSPC-SP11 standard or spot blast-cleaned to a Commercial finish (SSPC-SP 6). All exterior steel, such as vents, hatches, steel retaining rings and exposed yard piping, will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Commercial finish (SSPC-SP 6). Meyers GST will have complete coating removal and coating application performed under full containment.
After exterior surface preparation is completed, tanks will be given a two-coat acrylic system. When recoating the Meyers GST and exterior steel, surfaces will receive a four-coat zinc and acrylic system.
Work is expected to be completed within 335 days after contract commencement.
Owner-approved brands include Tnemec, Sherwin-Williams and Induron.
