Applicator Made for Automatic Drawdown
For labs that apply drawdowns manually, but are interested in moving to an automatic tool, paint testing equipment firm TQC (Capelle aan den IJssel, The Netherlands) has introduced its new Automatic Film Applicator Compact as an entry-level tool that's designed for ease of use and cleaning.
The results of manual drawdowns are customarily impacted by different variables such as application speed, which determines the final thickness of the film; applied force; and the operator themselves.
The AFA Compact has a standard TQC operating interface with Triple-i technology, which assists the operator through the interface of TQC lab-machines. The interface determines which buttons are active, and illuminates these with a red center, increasing ease of use for the user.
The applicator accepts charts up to A4 size, with an application speed ranging from 1 to 150 mm/s. The Compact is also compatible with both wire-wound rod applicators and block applicators, and is available with a glass or perforated vacuum bed. A drip pan and paper holder come standard, simplifying the cleaning process, according to TQC.
