Nonslip Coating Made for Industrial Environments

A new powder coating from Axalta Coating Systems (Philadelphia) provides a non-slip solution for aggressive areas, designed to hold up against heavy traffic and harsh chemicals.

The new non-slip addition to the company's Alesta line is recommended for use on metal decking, ramps, railings, hand tools and other substrates in industrial environments as well as in infrastructure and manufacturing.

“Slippery surfaces can pose real dangers, especially when exposed to water,” Axalta product manager Craig Dietz said in a statement. “There is a demand for anti-skid coatings in the industry and I am excited that Axalta has recognized and responded to this as part of its commitment to stay at the forefront of our customers’ needs.”

The new Alesta coating is intended for application via cold electrostatic spray, curing in 10 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit at a film thickness of 4 to 5 mils.

The coating is formulated as a TGIC-polyester, and can also be made as a custom product using epoxy, hybrid or HAA chemistries. The new product can be applied directly to metal or over a colored basecoat. Axalta says the product is tested to 1,000 hours of salt spray per ASTM B117-97.
