Perstorp Acquires Italian Polyols Firm

TUESDAY, JULY 11, 2017

Specialty chemicals manufacturer Perstorp (Malmö, Sweden) has announced the acquisition of a polyol business unit from Italian firm Polioli SpA (Milano).

The Swedish firm said Friday (July 7) that it is in the process of acquiring Polialcoli Srl, including the firm’s neopentylglycol, trimethylolpropane and TMP diallylether businesses, and the associated formate businesses at the Vercelli, Italy, site. The move is part of a larger effort to increase Perstorp’s position in the polyols market globally, the company says.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

'Global Reach'

“Polioli SpA has been under receivership for the last four years,” Polioli CEO Federico Ferlin said in a statement. “We have seen a potential in these products but it has proven increasingly difficult to run these product lines in smaller scale plants. In order to be successful, we have come to the conclusion that it makes more sense to operate these assets through a larger company with global reach. It was therefore natural for us to approach Perstorp.”

“The transaction is fully in line with Perstorp’s strategy to further strengthen our position in the polyols market,” said Jan Secher, president and CEO of Perstorp.”TMP and neo are both key products in our Polyol portfolio, which is a core business within Perstorp. These product lines have been instrumental in the development of Perstorp as an international company and we are happy to expand our position further to be able to serve a strong demand from the market.”

The polyols that are part of the deal are used in the production of monomers and resins for various performance coatings.

According to Perstorp, the acquisition will include technology, know-how and equipment, and the 74 employees under the business unit will join Perstorp. The companies expect the deal to close Aug. 31, pending regulatory approvals.

Perstorp reported about 11.1 billion Krona (about $1.02 billion) in net sales in 2016.
