Elevation Awards Spotlight: Radius at the Banks

WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 2017

Durability + Design is continuing to provide a glimpse into the competition of our inaugural Elevation Awards, an event developed to honor architects, interior designers, painting contractors, decorative artisans, manufacturers and suppliers for their excellent work. Below is a selected nominee from the “Air Barrier and Moisture Management” category.

Project: Radius at The Banks

During the development’s construction, Cincinnati’s Radius at The Banks luxury apartment complex switched from its planned fluid-applied air barrier to VaproShield’s SA Self-Adhered WRB/Air Barrier System.

Under the lead of contractor Brasfield & Gorrie, the decision was made to switch to VaproShield because of the product’s versatility regarding installation temperatures.

Over the 150,000 square-foot riverfront property, VaproShield was installed during inclement weather conditions, including before and after rain and in below freezing temperatures.

Because of the aggressive construction schedule, VaproShield also offered a rough opening flashing solution that consisted of two components: a liquid-applied rough opening flashing material and pre-cut field membrane, which simplified the tedious job of window flashing.

The workers also installed VaproShims, which creates a rain screen cavity (of about ¼”) that helps to dry out the building envelope. More than 100,000 of the small neoprene/EPDM VaproShims were installed behind the horizontal cladding attachment components.
