Coating Made to Encapsulate Joints
A new spray- or brush-applied protective coating from Belzona Polymerics Limited (Harrogate, England) is designed to guard complex surfaces from corrosion without adversely affecting inspection and maintenance.
Belzona 3412 is a two-part hybrid polymer coating designed as a topcoat to encapsulate flanged joints and other similar mechanical equipment. When used in conjunction with Belzona 8411 (a release agent and corrosion inhibitor), the company says the membrane can be peeled back for inspection and maintenance—then resealed with an additional layer.
Belzona says the new coating is isocyanate-free and offers corrosion resistance (it's protected from corrosion through 6,000 hours of salt-fog testing at 95 degrees Fahrenheit). The company says it provides UV and heat resistance and cures quickly (one hour to overcoat).
The adhesive and elastomeric properties of 3412 allow it to bond with and encapsulate a variety of bare metal and coated surfaces, according to Belzona.
The membrane, which comes in light gray or bright orange, is available globally, the company says.
