Elevation Awards Spotlight: NYC Installation

MONDAY, MAY 15, 2017

With only weeks left to submit an entry for Durability + Design’s inaugural Elevation Awards, we will be counting down to the deadline (May 26) by featuring a select nomination each day, giving you a glimpse of the competition. Below is a selected nominee in the “Distinguished Residential Exteriors” category.

Project: NYC 57 West Installation

Stephen Glassman Studio and the 57 West development in New York City wanted an installation near the entrance of two of its residential buildings. They landed on a 3,600-square-foot installation named “Flows Two Ways”—loosely based on the Hudson River’s Native American name—that is made up of tubes and metallic panels that twist and turn in homage to the river.

The Glassman team needed coatings that were in metallic colors with a high gloss and color retention and ended up turning to Tnemec Company Inc.’s Series 1078 Fluoronar, a metallic fluoropolymer that is capable of high UV resistance.

Atlantic Coast Metalizing Coatings Corp. (Melville, New York) applied the product. The 32,000-pound installation made up of pipe clusters and 35 interlocking panels and boulders was painted and installed in January 2017.

TPC Coating Consultants Inc., American Signcrafters, The Durst Organization, Milgo Bufkin Industrial, Hunter Roberts and La Paloma Fine Art also assisted on the project.
