Finnish Architects Draft Beer

WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2017

A group of Finnish architects, acknowledging the need for the perfect elixir after a tough day in pursuit of the ultimate design, came up with a solution for what “ales” them.

Helsinki-based ALA Architects, in collaboration with Donut Island Brewing and Hiisi Brewing Company of Finland, released a limited edition craft beer on Sunday (April 30) called Revision Cloud Architectural Ale.

ALA’s website says the limited edition pale ale is “a perfect companion for a typical dry and cold Finnish summer. The beer celebrates the corroborative nature of architectural work: versions are improved and edited, designs are revised, mistakes are made and corrections are communicated.

“The revision clouds remain in our drawings as admissions of guilt and as graphic markers of our quest for perfection. Sometimes the situation calls for a mental revision, relaxation and refocus. This is what Revision Cloud is made for. Cheers.”

ALA was founded in 2005 and is led by architects Samuli Woolston, Juho Gronholm and Antti Nousjoki. Among their designs are the City Theatre in Lappeenranta, Finland, and the Helsinki Central Library.

“ALA Architects … seeks fresh angles, flowing forms and surprising solutions on all levels of architecture,” according to kokoromoi.com.
