Dryvit Debuts a Brick Alternative
Dryvit Systems Inc. has launched a new brick product billed as a game-changer when it comes to installation productivity and design options for multi-story buildings.
Called NewBrick, the patent-pending product is described as a lightweight (1/12th the weight of a traditional clay brick), insulated brick product coated with a specially formulated finish.
The cladding product matches clay brick’s classic size and appearance, but offers unique engineering and technology designed to meet today’s building challenges, according to the Rhode Island-based manufacturer.
The NewBrick features a built in horizontal alignment guide that eliminates the need for support pans and mortar joint spacers and also establishes the perfect 3/8-inch spacing for the mortar, reducing installation time and saving money, according to Dryvit. Further, the company says no brick ties are needed, which eliminates penetrations through the water-resistive barrier.
The product can be installed directly over tilt-wall, precast and concrete masonry units, and can also be installed over the company’s Outsulation system, the company adds.
