Air Barrier Goes on with a Trowel

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2016

A new air barrier product from Sto Corp. is a trowelable version of the company’s established StoGuard Gold Coat air barrier membrane.

StoGuard Gold Coat TA allows the user to apply the vapor-permeable air barrier material with a trowel rather than a spray system, as required with the already-available Gold Coat product. It can be used in StoTherm continuous insulation systems.

Waterproof Air Barrier

Gold Coat TA is designed to be troweled directly onto vertical above-grade sheathing and concrete masonry, according to the manufacturer. When used with StoGuard joint and rough opening treatment, the product forms a waterproof air barrier, the company says.

“StoGuard Gold Coat TA has all of the features and benefits that our Gold Coat product has, and for applicators wanting to trowel apply, it’s the perfect solution,” said Lauren May, Associate Product Manager at Sto Corp.

Gold Coat goes on seamless, and is a low-VOC formulation, the company says. The product comes ready-mixed in 5-gallon containers.
