New Additives Work Across Applications

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2016

Two new flow and leveling additives from manufacturer Evonik are specially designed for use in can and coil coatings.

Tego Flow 375 and Tego Flow 460 N are both new silicone-free flow and leveling agents that are listed worldwide and are approved by the FDA for direct contact with food, the company notes. This, according to Evonik, allows manufacturers to use the same additives for multiple end-uses.

Silicone- and Aromatic-Free

Both new Tego Flow products are polyacrylate-based, and both are suitable for solvent-based coatings, but are not suitable for waterborne or radiation-cured formulations. Both agents are free of aromatics and free of silicone, and exhibit very good adhesion and wetting properties, the company says.

“Both products are silicone-free. Impurities and associated cratering can therefore be excluded, thus ensuring smooth-running production,” says Kirstin Schulz, Evonik’s marketing director for industrial coatings.

Tego Flow 375 is well suited for use in solvent-based formulations, the manufacturer says, and achieves optimum gloss values.

Tego Flow 460 N possesses deaerating characteristics, which the company says delivers defect-free application, especially in pigmented formulations.
