Lab Machine Allows Tinting on Small Scale

MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2016

A new mixing instrument for the production of color samples in the lab is designed to reproduce any tint in samples of 100 cc.

Color Lab, from startup company Alfa (Caldarera di Reno, Italy), was created to help reduce the time and cost of the formulation process, the manufacturer says.

The instrument’s patented pump can dispense microdrops as small as 0.0077 cc, which the company says is one-tenth of the current industry standard, with precision and repeatability. According to Alfa, the instrument only needs a one-time setup, and does not require repeated calibration.

Formulating at a sample size of 100 cc, the company notes, has the potential to save costs in terms of materials used and disposal. The machine is controlled remotely, and connects to a web platform that allows the user to connect the instrument to a real-time database analyzing processes and behavior.
