The six-year-old Consol Energy Center in downtown Pittsburgh will be renamed to PPG Paints Arena, pursuant to an agreement between PPG and the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins.

Previously known as the “Consol Energy Center,” the facility, which opened in 2010, has hosted more than 150 events each year as well as serving as the home ice for the Stanley Cup champions.

Financial terms of PPG’s agreement with the Pittsburgh Penguins were not disclosed. The agreement calls for the building to be renamed immediately and to remain so named for 20 years.

PPG also says it has become the team's "official paint supplier." The company says that signage both inside and outside the arena will soon bear the new name and logo.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, PPG operates in more than 70 countries and reported net sales of $14.8 billion in 2015. The company has recently been shedding itself of non-coatings ventures; this summer it proposed the sale of its flat glass business after 130 years in that segment.
