SSPC Issues 2 Standard Revisions
SSPC, the Society for Protective Coatings, has announced new revisions to two of its standards.
The association revealed editorial revisions to SSPC-PA-2, Procedure for Determining Conformance to Dry Coating Thickness Requirements, and revisions to the joint SSPC/AWS/NACE standard SSPC-CS 23.00/AWS C2.23/NACE No. 12, Specification for the Application of Thermal Spray Coatings (Metallizing) of Aluminum, Zinc, and Their Alloys and Composites for the Corrosion Protection of Steel.
SSPC-PA-2
SSPC-PA-2 is a tool for property owners and specifiers to use in specifying dry coating thickness, and for contractors and inspectors to use in determining compliance with specifications.
The most recent revision of SSPC-PA-2 was released in January 2015; the new revisions are editorial in nature. Some revisions involve units of measure; another revision deals with SSPC-PA-2 in relation to SSPC-CS 23.00, the new version of which refers to the PA-2 standard.
SSPC-PA-2 is authored by SSPC committee C.3.2, Measurement of Dry Coating Thickness, under committee chair William D. Corbett, of KTA-Tator Inc.
SSPC-CS-23.00
SSPC-CS-23.00 is a joint standard, issued by SSPC, AWS (the American Welding Society) and NACE International. It is designed for use by facility owners and specifiers, inspectors and contractors in applications of thermal spray coatings.
Also classed as AWS C2.23 and NACE No. 12, the standard establishes minimum requirements for surface preparation before thermal spray application; application of thermal spray coatings; and applications of sealers or topcoats over thermal spray coatings.
The 2016 revision of this standard includes a reorganization of the previous 2003 version, as well as the revision of requirements that have been revised since 2003. New appendices also describe optional procedures for verifying adhesion and thermal spray coating thickness, referring to SSPC-PA-2.
Appendices that described or applied to procurement and contract requirements were removed in the new version of the standard.
SSPC-CS-23.00 is authored by the following committees: SSPC C.1.14, AWS C.2, and NACE TG 146. More information on the 2016 revision is available here.
