New VAE Dispersion Touts Low Emissions

THURSDAY, AUGUST 18, 2016

Global polymers manufacturer Wacker Chemie AG has released a new binder for use in formulating low-odor and low-emissions interior coatings.

Wacker’s Vinnapas EP 3360 ULS, made specifically for the Asia-Pacific region, is a vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymers (VAE)-based dispersion, which the company says offers stain resistance and high opacity.

Very Low VOC, Formaldehyde

The binder’s VAE basis means no supplementary plasticizers are necessary, Wacker says, and it has less odor than many acrylic binders. It can be used in the formulation of very low-VOC paints, and also features very low formaldehyde, according to the manufacturer.

The company says it also has a very low residual monomer content (less than 200 ppm), and does not require coalescing agents for ideal film formation.

The dispersion’s low-VOC nature makes it compatible with environments where emissions must be kept low, such as hospitals and schools, Wacker notes.

In addition to high stain resistance, the company says that Vinnapas EP 3360 offers high scrub resistance.

Wacker is an international polymers manufacturer with production sites in the U.S., China, Germany and South Korea.
