Corrosion Inhibitor Goes Liquid

TUESDAY, JULY 26, 2016

An established corrosion inhibitor for use in coatings and concrete admixtures is now available in liquid form.

Halox 570 LS, from ICL/ Advanced Additives (Hammond, IN), is a new liquid form of Halox 570, a powder corrosion inhibitor. The new form of the additive is designed to fight flash rust and galvanic corrosion, according to ICL.

The manufacturer calls Halox 570 LS “environmentally friendly,” in addition to being nitrite-, phosphate- and heavy metal-free. It can be used in industrial or architectural coatings, and is recommended for water-based epoxy, acrylic or alkyd formulations, or concrete admixtures.

Adhesion and Gloss

Halox 570 LS is a standalone corrosion inhibitor, and is post-addable under agitation, according to ICL.

The powder version of Halox 570 is reportedly the company’s most widely used organic corrosion inhibitor. The liquid version, according to ICL, promotes adhesion and a high gloss finish for the coating.
