Hexion to Offer High-Tech Powder Coatings

TUESDAY, MAY 3, 2016

Hexion Inc. (Columbus, OH) has introduced its line of durable powder coating resins, including low temperature cure options, to the North American market.

Through new and enhanced distribution channels, Hexion Inc. says it is now supplying its Albester brand of durable and superdurable polyester resins, as well as its Albecor LTC brand of low temperature cure, carboxyl-terminated polyester resins, in the U.S. and Canada.

“The popularity of high tech powder coating is on the rise in North America,” said Donato Di Lorenzo, Hexion’s marketing and business development manager, powder resins.

"We’re excited about bringing our powder coating resins to this very attractive, globally strategic market as well as being able to support our current customer base with ready supply in North America.”

Outdoor Durability

According to Hexion, its Albester brand’s 25-year history has made it known for its outdoor durability.

This resin range includes pure polyesters applied in systems that can comply with stringent international standards, such as Qualicoat, GSB and American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA), the company says.

Curing options include triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC) and TGIC-free solutions. The range also encompasses hydroxyl-terminated resins typically used in non-emissive polyester-urethane systems for special effects in architectural, anti-graffiti and transportation applications, the company adds.

Environmentally Conscious

Hexion says it designed its Albecor product line of carboxyl-terminated polyester resins in response to customer demand for high-performing, environmentally preferred technologies. This line was developed to allow for reduced baking temperatures, saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions while delivering durability, it adds.

These powder coating resins are said to feature high reactivity and good flow, a non-blooming finish, and excellent mechanical and outdoor performance, according to the company. They are available in high or low gloss.

The company also suggests that the shortened curing/cooling cycle times make them appropriate choices for coating massive components, such as earth-moving equipment.
