Hands-On Safety Training Center Opens

TUESDAY, APRIL 19, 2016

A new safety training center made to provide hands-on training to painting contractors and others has opened near Pittsburgh, PA.

“The jungle gym you remember from childhood just grew up,” MSA – The Safety Company, a global manufacturer of safety products, said of its new facility in a April 8 press announcement.

The three-story indoor training complex represents nearly a $1 million investment for the company, it added, enabling it to offer a wide array of training courses covering nearly every industry the company serves.

"Painting contractors face many more decisions than choosing the right color or applicator," said Becky Trimpey, MSA's global training manager. "Respirators, fall protection, even hard hats are the new reality and proper training can help with correct selection as well as approved use for optimum safety on the job."

True-to-Life Safety Scenarios

The training center is filled with an intricate rig of ladders, platforms, manholes and escape windows, according to MSA, enabling it to simulate a variety of true-to-life worker safety scenarios.

Global safety equipment manufacturer MSA has unveiled a new state-of-the-art safety-training center at the Regional Learning Alliance (RLA) in Cranberry Township, PA.

The facility was developed to train industrial workers, construction contractors, utility workers and firefighters on how to properly select, inspect and use personal protective equipment (PPE) in a hands-on, application-based atmosphere.

Confined spaces training gets special emphasis, according to the company, utilizing custom enclosures for workers to practice climbing and crawling, as well as provisions for pre-entry atmospheric testing/monitoring and related respiratory protection devices.

Instruction on the repair and maintenance of gas detection instruments and other PPE is also available to instill the confidence in trainees to run their own maintenance programs back at their own facilities.
