Understanding Laboratory Weathering Tests

THURSDAY, APRIL 14, 2016

Accelerated weathering and light stability testing can be an important part of new product development and quality control.

Q-Lab's Jeff Quill will cover these topics in the next free webinar from JPCL and SSPC, "Essentials of Laboratory Weathering," from 11 am to noon ET Wednesday, April 20.

What You Will Learn

Every day, accelerated weathering and light stability testers help research and development, quality control, and new product development engineers improve their products, minimize failures and reduce raw material costs.

During this webinar, Quill will:

  • Compare fluorescent UV and xenon arc accelerated weathering testing;
  • Describe how these methods simulate sunlight, temperature and moisture;
  • Provide guidance on the best use of laboratory weathering technologies;
  • Discuss the importance of natural weathering tests; and
  • Dispel the myth that natural weathering tests are too slow and costly.

Presenter Experience

Quill, director of Technical Applications for Q-Lab, is a member of several ASTM, ISO and SAE committees dealing with standards for weathering and testing of coatings, plastics, printing inks, textiles and other materials.

Considered to be one of the world’s experts on light stability and weathering testing, Quill was a principle investigator in the research project that led to the development of the ASTM D7869 xenon arc weathering standard for automotive exterior materials. He has also given numerous presentations and seminars and authored many papers on the subject throughout the world. Quill holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University.
