Firm Offers Low-VOC Solvent Alternative

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2016

Environmentally friendly industrial solvents manufacturer TBF Environmental Technology Inc. has announced the commercial availability of its latest volatile organic content (VOC)-compliant alternative product.

BerdeSol is meant to be a replacement for slow-evaporating conventional solvents like Heptane, Aromatic 100, Cyclohexane, Methyl Amyl Ketone (MAK), Perchloroethylene, and Butyl Acetate, according to the company. Not only does BerdeSol perform similarly to these solvents, TBF adds, but the product also eliminates the emission of VOCs and other toxic pollutants.

In its continuing efforts to improve Southern Californian air quality, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has created a new class of Clean Air Solvents (CAS) for solvents which, among other criteria, contain no more than 25 grams of VOC per liter of material, TBF explains.

According to the company, SCAQMD has certified BerdeSol as a Clean Air Solvent and independent ASTM 313-91 testing has confirmed the product is VOC-compliant throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Industrial applications include use as a co-solvent for paints, coatings and waterproofing compounds.
