Blasting Pot Boasts Fewer Refill Stops


Marco Group International, a supplier of equipment to the surface preparation and protective coatings industries, has announced the release of a new larger-capacity blasting pot.

The new Blastmaster 10 Cu. Ft. Abrasive Blasting Pot is a pressure vessel used as part of an abrasive blasting system to deliver a mixture of abrasive and compressed air to a work surface, the company says.

Able to hold up to 10 cubic feet of abrasive, the capacity of the new model is able to increase production by extending blasting time between each fill, it adds.

Manufactured to ASME standards, the blasting pots are constructed from high-quality materials that resist wear, reducing downtime and increasing production rates, Marco says.

The unit comes equipped with the following features, as described on the company site:

  • A sturdy steel base designed to be mounted on a mobile platform or in a fixed location under an abrasive hopper;
  • A muffler which reduces noise and traps particles as they exit the exhaust port during the depressurization process;
  • Multiple abrasive outlets to allow for the connection of a single metering valve at the bottom of the cone or dual off-center metering valves; and
  • A steep 90-degree angled cone bottom to provide significantly improved abrasive flow when compared to a 60-degree cone bottom.

Additionally, OSHA requires abrasive blasting pots to be equipped with a remote control system, which only operates with continuous hand pressure and deactivates upon release of the control switch by the operator, the company says.

Typical applications include blast rooms, blast yards, bridges, oil refineries, pipelines, railcar shops, storage tanks, and water towers.

Common abrasives used include aluminum oxide, crushed glass, garnet, mineral abrasives, slags, and steel shot and grit.
