D+D Launches Free Coatings Instruction

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2016

Opportunities abound for increasing your knowledge of coatings chemistry selection, performance and applications in 2016.

Durability + Design, the leading publisher in architectural coatings technology, kicks off its ambitious 26-webinar series, offering free coatings education for specifiers and users, beginning Feb. 24 and continuing throughout 2016.

Durability + Design, through its parent Technology Publishing Company, is an AIA/CES registered provider of continuing education credits for architects.

Instructors for each webinar will be industry-recognized authorities in their subject matter.

Continuing Education

The 26 webinars are divided into five distinct series, as described below.

The 12-unit Webinar Series on High-Performance Architectural Coatings provides a basic understanding of the chemistry and capability of four important generic coating types: silicones, fluoropolymers, polyurethanes, and acrylics.

Three one-hour webinars will be presented on each of these generic types. The fluoropolymer webinars, for instance, will cover three subjects, one on coatings for building enclosures, such as reflective roof coatings; one on coatings for building exteriors, such as coatings for curtain wall metal; and one on coatings for building interiors.

The three-unit Webinar Series on Concrete Floor Coatings will focus on selecting floor coatings and treatments, such as polishing, for specific building environments and exposure conditions. One webinar will deal with selecting floor coatings and treatments for high-volume retail stores; another will deal with floors in schools and hospitals; and a third will focus on selecting coatings for aggressive environments, such as food and beverage plants.

Another three-unit Webinar Series on Innovative Coatings Technology describes recent technical developments in coatings that will impact selection and use. Topics of the three webinars are developments in performance testing of building enclosure coatings; advances in powder coatings for curtain-wall metal; and developments in fire-resistive coatings.

The five-unit Webinar Series on Specifying Architectural Coatings deals with special issues and topics that impact coating selection. Two webinars will cover the water-vapor permeance of coatings, first defining the phenomenon and then explaining why it is important to coating selection. A third webinar focuses on moisture intrusion in buildings, how to determine moisture levels in walls and floors and how to mitigate moisture. Another webinar in this series describes the importance of aesthetics to brand image and discusses the types of coatings needed to support branding. The final webinar in the series helps architect-specifiers and owners decide among the options for concrete floors—coat, cover or polish.

The three-unit Webinar Series on High-Performance Pigments deals with achieving strong and durable colors in coatings, the use of IR-reflective pigments in reflective roof coatings, and achieving durable anti-corrosion functionality without toxicity.
