PPG Launches Metal Coatings Series

MONDAY, JANUARY 11, 2016

A new metal coatings series that aims to protect rooftop HVAC systems on commercial buildings is now available through PPG Industries.

The two-component polyester polyurethane enamel coating called the Spectracron 380 Poly-Iothane HS (High-Solids) series provides corrosion resistance when applied directly to metal or over primer-coated metal surfaces, according to the company.

Designed to enhance surface protection and durability in industrial and architectural environments, the product can be used for a variety of industrial and commercial metal coatings needs, the company says.

In addition to HVAC and ventilation systems, the Spectracron 380 Poly-Iothane HS can be used for hydraulic pumps; trucks and trailer frames; water and gas meters; and agricultural and construction equipment.

According to PPG, the Spectracron 380 Poly-Iothane HS series can be applied over cleaned and blasted steel or top-coated over surfaces that have not been sanded or abraded. They also can be used as clear coats to protect steel from oxidation prior to fabrication, which the company says can help avoid the need for phosphates and other chemical cleaners as metal goes through milling, stamping and coating.

PPG says the series also withstands exposure to chemicals, abrasion and impact. The coatings can be applied using most conventional spray equipment, including air; airless; air-assisted; and electrostatic tools, according to the company.

Spectracron 380 Poly-Iothane HS coatings are available in a range of finishes and colors, the company says.
