Coatings Series Aims to Protect Metal

PPG Industries has introduced a two-component polyester polyurethane enamel coatings series that the company says provides corrosion resistance when applied directly to metal or over primer-coated metal surfaces.

The Spectracron 380 Poly-Iothane HS (High-Solids) series is designed to enhance surface protection and durability in industrial and architectural environments, according to PPG.

Product applications include hydraulic pumps; trucks and trailer frames; water and gas meters; and agricultural and construction equipment. It also can be used for metal framing assemblies for commercial rooftop heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) units.

According to PPG, the Spectracron 380 Poly-Iothane HS series can be applied over cleaned and blasted steel or top-coated over surfaces that have not been sanded or abraded. They also can be used as clear coats to protect steel from oxidation prior to fabrication, which the company says can help avoid the need for phosphates and other chemical cleaners as metal goes through milling, stamping and coating.

PPG says the series also withstands exposure to chemicals, abrasion and impact. The coatings can be applied using most conventional spray equipment, including air; airless; air-assisted; and electrostatic tools, according to the company.

Spectracron 380 Poly-Iothane HS coatings are available in a range of glosses. They also come in standard and custom colors, including metallic and clear-coat finishes, PPG says.
