Commercial Lineup Set for SSPC 2016

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2015

From air barriers to floor coatings—the commercial track planned for SSPC 2016 will highlight a plethora of topics tailored to commercial and architectural coatings industry professionals.

SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings will hold its annual conference and exhibition Jan. 18-21 in San Antonio.

Technical Sessions

On Monday, Jan. 18, SSPC leaders will present a Working in the Coatings Industry—What You Need to Know! session to discuss SSPC program offerings.

SSPC 2015 will take place Jan. 18-21 in San Antonio. The annual event is the only conference and exhibition dedicated exclusively to protective, marine, industrial and commercial coatings.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, a series entitled “Commercial Painting Programs—Challenges, Solutions and Opportunities” will be presented.

That series, divided into three parts, features the following technical presentations.

PART I

• Case Study: Decorative Yet Functional Floor Coatings at the Energy Innovation Center; presented by Steven Reinstadtler, Covestro
• Beating the Odds for Successful Flooring Installations; presented by Fred Goodwin, BASF Construction Chemicals
• Using Lead Abatement Contractors for Surface Preparation on Commercial Properties—The Consequences of Sacrificing Quality for Safety; presented by Raymond S. Tombaugh, KTA-Tator Inc.

PART II

• Case Study: Setting Up a Commercial Coatings Inspection Program; presented by Davis Kyle, Master Painters Institute; and Richard Bright, Bright Concepts Inc.
• Commercial Building Cleaning, Painting and QC Requirements—Differences Between “High Performance” and “Conventional” Commercial Coatings; presented by Jeff Theo and Doug Pigue, Vulcan Painters.

• Case Study: Coatings Failure or Building Failure; presented by Kevin Brown and Ken Trimber, KTA-Tator Inc.

Additionally, a two-hour workshop entitled Waterborne Coatings for Commercial Architecture will be instructed by Dr. Leo Procopio and Laura Vielhauer, of The Dow Chemical Company, on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Moreover, a number of committee meetings focused on commercial coatings topics will also take place during the convention. They are:

Training programs of interest to the commercial coatings professional include Using SSPC PA 2 Effectively and Developing an Effective Coating Specification, organizers say.
