Axalta Taps New VP, Division President

Global liquid and powder coating supplier Axalta Coating Systems has appointed a new executive to its leadership team.

Mike Carr was brought on as Axalta’s new Vice President and President, North America, the company announced. He will report to Chairman and CEO Charlie Shaver and be responsible for the company’s business in the U.S. and Canada.

“I’m very pleased to have Mike join our ranks to lead our North America business moving forward,” Shaver said.

“Mike’s broad experience in the automotive sector and his many positions operating in business-to-business environments make him ideally suited to spearhead our growth strategy and continue to integrate our resources to enhance our productivity and customer focus,” he added.

Carr comes to Axalta from Johnson Controls’ power solutions division, where he served as vice president and general manager for the U.S. and Canada. While there, Carr also held positions general management and sales, including roles in South America and Europe.

Early in his career, Carr worked for Exide Technologies, Armstrong World Industries and General Battery Corporation.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s University and an MBA in marketing from Drexel University.

According to Axalta, its North America operations are home to some of the company’s largest customers, including leading global vehicle manufacturers and some of the largest refinish and body shop franchises.

The market also includes numerous Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers that benefit from the company’s array of liquid and powder coatings, as well as numerous customers in industrial segments that rely on Axalta coatings for electrical insulation, pipe and electrocoat applications.
