Huntsman Debuts Polyol for SPF

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2015

Huntsman Corp.’s Polyurethanes Division has introduced a new aromatic polyester polyol formulated for rigid foam systems, particularly spray polyurethane foam.

TEROL 649 aromatic polyester polyol features enhanced solubility, improved fire performance and compatibility with new blowing agents, while also reducing the needed amount of polyether polyols and flame retardants, according to Huntsman.

It can also reduce or completely eliminate the use of brominated flame retardants (BFRs), one of the most widely used flame retardants on the market, the company says.

Uses, Performance

TEROL 649 polyol can be used with 3.5 and 4.0 generation blowing agents. Additionally, it can be used with HFC-245fa and other hydrofluorocarbon systems, the company says.

Huntsman says the polyol allows for higher loading levels, up to 100 percent of the polyol requirement, which can improve the performance of SPF in an array of testing protocols.

The company also notes that its polyol products can be tailored to meet customer specifications across the insulation value chain, including boardstock, SPF, insulated metal panels, structural insulated panels, appliances and commercial refrigeration.
